Delicious Dairy-Free {vegan} Frosting

A plate of cupcakes with blue frosting.

My family loves cake and frosted cookies, but we are dairy-free. My family LOVES this vegan recipe. It will harden because it is a shortening frosting. While I prefer butter in recipes because it is more natural, it’s not healthy if you have a milk intolerance. I like the flavor on its own, but add flavorings of your choice. Start with 2 teaspoons of vanilla or some other flavor. If adding flavor, make sure to do so before adjusting the thickness with the oat milk. Adding flavor at the end will give you a thinner frosting. Add more powdered sugar to thicken, more oat milk to thin. Be careful not to deviate too much or you might not get the desired taste.

This recipe is so quick and it tastes amazing! This year I discovered Alan’s Bridal Blend on Amazon and I always add it to my frosting now. It is so stinking good! I never buy store-bought cupcakes, it’s something I have never done (except when bringing cupcakes to a school when homemade is not allowed). Homemade is SO easy, costs much less and they taste so much better! Wow your friends and family with some amazing tasting cupcakes! Making the frosting look beautiful is so easy too! All you need is a piping bag and a large star piping tip! That’s it!

Here’s a quick video of frosting a cupcake. It’s really easy after a couple of practice runs!

This is the only recipe my whole family can enjoy because of food sensitivities. We love it! We recently had it on some beet juice red velvet cupcakes!

They were delicious!

Dairy-Free {vegan} Frosting

Vanessa @darcygirl

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Butter Flavored Crisco
  • 8 cups Powdered sugar Sifted, Fresh powered sugar will have the best taste
  • 1/4 tsp salt Use a fine salt that will mix well into the frosting
  • 6 tbsp oat milk (more or less depending on desired consistency)
  • 2 tsp Alan's Bridal Blend Use any desired flavor or leave out entirely

Instructions

  • Using a mixer, mix the crisco for 2 minutes.
  • Add sifted powdered sugar one cup at a time. Once all of the powdered sugar is added, mix for 1 more minute, if it won't mix because it is too dry add oat milk 1 tablespoon at a time until fully encorpated. Scrape bowl.
  • If adding a flavor do this now, before adding additional oat milk. Add oat milk to frosting depending on desired thickness (1 tablespoon at a time). You may not need all of the milk, you may need more.
