My {baking} secret weapon
Baking is one of my most favorite things to do! It’s so calming and relaxing. I love baking things that are so yummy for other people. I love the chemistry and science behind it. I love experimenting with new recipes. And I love researching and reading everything I can about how to get the best bakes. One thing I don’t love is when something I make doesn’t turn out the way I thought it should when I have done everything right. It doesn’t always make sense if I followed the recipe correctly. It donned on me that it could be the oven. If the oven temperature says 350 degrees Fahrenheit…

Making something from nothing–Reading nook
We just moved into a new home. I realized a space next to our stairs in the basement would be a perfect spot for a reading nook. Having a special spot for reading in your home, however big or small, can be such a great invitation for kids to read. I have lived in a few homes since my kids were young and we haven’t always had the “perfect spot” for a reading area. But, I have always tried to make use of any little areas in our homes that don’t have a use. Sometimes it’s just been a little spot in the kids’ rooms. I hadn’t really figured out…

The Easiest Farmhouse Wreath I’ve Ever Made!
After a lot of searching online, I finally found a wreath that I liked and could hang in my kitchen! I need a somewhat small wreath to hang above my stove. It’s can’ be a size that would you hang on your front door, such as a 22″ or 24″ wreath. I felt, for the space, it had to be around 14″. I have one that I absolutely love that I hang there for the rest of the year but I wanted to hang something different for the Christmas season. It’s been a hard year and we could all use the fun decorations to brighten the spirit! As I was…

5 Books to Check Out If You Like Jane Austen
Blackmoore by Julianne Donaldson. This is one of the best books like a Jane Austen novel that I have ever read. It made the number one spot for a reason! Get lost in a good, clean romance that you will be sad to see end! Endenbrooke by Julianne Donaldson. Same author, just as good! Please excuse me while I go read these ASAP… The Selection by Kiera Cass. This series is so good. It will hook you with all its twists and turns. The Merchant’s Daughter by Melanie Dickerson. I love this author. She has interesting stories that are clean and enjoyable! The Outer Edge of Heaven, by Jaclyn M.…

Easiest DIY Bow Ever!
I bought a beautiful lit wreath for Christmas that I really love the look of. I love the flocking, and the LED lights that have a battery pack, but it was missing something. I had some ribbon on hand from years past but that was about it. I decided to make a bow with just things on hand! This bow is so easy and you only need two things! Wire ribbon and a bread tie! If you have your own wire, that’s great too! Determine how big you want your bow and cut a length of ribbon. It’s up to you! 2. Peel paper off of the bread tie. 3.…

The Dishwasher Fix You Might Need
One day, I had had enough of my dishes coming out worse than when they went in. After doing a bunch of internet research, and looking at my dishwasher manual, I realized that my dishwasher had a filter! And that the filter needed to be cleaned out routinely! I had no idea! You can see from the picture where my filter is. With a simple twist and very gently cleaning it and reinserting, my dishwasher problems went away! Your filter may be more or less dirty. When I first discovered that I needed to clean my filter, my filter was very dirty! Now, your problems might not be that simple…

My absolute must-have kitchen tool-part 2
I learned many years ago there is only one liquid measuring cup I will ever own. Pyrex. Why? Because I have purchased many, many other liquid measuring cups in the past only to be completely surprised (not the good kind of surprised) to find the measurement readings completely disappear! What on earth would I need a liquid measuring cup without any measurement readings for?! I have many Pyrex liquid measuring cups and have had them for many years. I love that they are glass! I love that the readings stay put! I have one that has had much more use than the others and there is a bit of fading…

My Favorite Kitchen Sink Hack
When I was younger, my mother always told me to never put knives in the sink. She said this would lead to unexpected cuts when reaching into the sink. So, as far back as I can remember, I would leave knives that needed to be washed on the counter by the sink. Until that is, I discovered the coolest colander! To me, it’s more than a colander. I usually don’t wash dishes several times a day. I will let them collect in the sink and wash them after dinner. I just don’t have time to wash dishes several times a day. I collect silverware and knives in this cool colander!…

The Joy of Sugar Cookies
There is something magical about making cutout sugar cookies. They are so delicious and beautiful to look at. Making a beautiful sugar cookie takes a lot of work and maybe that’s what makes them so special. Decorating them together as a family is a very special event in our home, one that leaves me feeling like I want to do it several times each holiday season. If you like your sugar cookies on the softer side, take them out a little early from the oven! My favorite recipe is from sallysbakingaddiction.com. The recipe is pretty standard but she advocates for not adding too much flour and using room temperature eggs.…
